The values for nutrients presented in Food Composition Table are based in data compilation from different sources, e.g. analytical studies performed by the Laboratories from the Food And Nutrition Department of the National Institute of Health Doutor Ricardo Jorge, scientific publications, other Food Composition Tables and for some processed foods, based in information from their label. The Table also contains values obtained by calculation, for example, for recipes, where the values were calculated by EuroFIR method (http://www.eurofir.org/?page_id=2695) and some nutrient values for which no information was available (missing values). Information on data source is presented wherever possible.
Most of the foods studied were purchased in shops, supermarkets and markets from different regions of the country, mostly from Lisboa and Oporto. For mostly of the foods five samples, at least were analysed, at least for some nutrients.
All the nutrients are presented for 100 g of edible part, with the exception of alcoholic beverages in which the nutrients are presented for 100 ml.
Note: The values published were based in the evaluation made by the compilers and their interpretation of the available data. There is no guarantee that a particular food has exactly the same composition that is presented in this Table, particularly due to food variability and use of average values.
